About Us
The High Court of Bombay, which is the chartered High Court is one of the oldest high courts of India, established on 14 August 1862. The name of the city of Bombay was changed to Mumbai in 1995 but the court as an institution does not follow the suit and remained as the Bombay High Court. The sanctioned strength of judges at Bombay High Court is 75 judges. The legal history of Bombay begun in 1661, when it came under the British rule. The Current Building of the Bombay high court was designed by British engineer Col. J.A. Fuller and the construction work of the building started in April 1871 and completed in November 1878. The statues of Justice and Mercy are atop this building. The first sitting in this building was held on 10 January 1879.
